Prime for Young Adults: Half-Price Prime for 18–24
If you're between 18 and 24, you can get Amazon Prime for half the normal price, and you don't have to be in college to get it.
Let's be honest: paying full price for Prime when you're starting out can feel like a lot, especially when you're juggling rent, a phone bill, and maybe a car payment. Amazon's Prime for Young Adults membership takes that cost down to $7.49 a month, and it starts with a six-month free trial. Here's how it works, who can sign up, and whether it's actually worth it.
What's the deal?
Prime for Young Adults is the same Prime membership everyone else gets, just at 50% off. After a free six-month trial, you pay $7.49 a month or $69 a year. That's not a flash sale either. It's an ongoing membership option, so you don't have to rush to grab it before a deadline.
If you go with the yearly plan, you're saving $70 a year compared to regular Prime. Stretch that over a few years and it adds up to real money.
Who qualifies?
You're eligible if you're 18 to 24 years old. College students with a valid .edu email can also sign up. This used to be called Prime Student, and a lot of people still think you need to be enrolled in school. You don't anymore.
Amazon will ask you to verify your age with a driver's license, passport, or ID card when you sign up. It only takes a minute, so have your ID handy.
What do you get?
Pretty much everything a regular Prime member gets. The big ones:
• Fast, free shipping on a huge range of items
• Prime Video for movies and shows
• Prime Day access, plus member-only deals throughout the year
• Amazon Photos storage for your pictures
• Extra perks for young adults, like occasional cash back offers on things like fashion, beauty, and electronics
If you already shop on Amazon a couple of times a month, the free shipping alone can cover the $7.49.
How to sign up
The whole thing takes about five minutes.
1. Go to amazon.com/youngadult.
2. Sign in, or create an Amazon account if you don't have one.
3. Verify your age with your ID (or use your .edu email if you're a student).
4. Start your six-month free trial.
5. Pick monthly or yearly billing for when the trial ends.
One tip: set a reminder on your phone for about five months out. That way you can decide if you want to keep it before you get charged.
Any catches?
A couple of small ones. You can't share this membership with someone else in your household, which regular Prime lets you do. And once you age out of eligibility, your membership switches to the regular Prime price.
Other than that, it's hard to find a downside. Six free months, then half price for the same perks.
Is it worth it?
If you're 18 to 24 and you shop on Amazon even occasionally, yes. Try the free trial, see how much you use it, and decide from there. Before you check out on your next order, take a look at our Amazon coupons and deals page on Famous Savings to stack even more savings on top of your Prime perks.
